Mike Letvinowich(??)

Hi Lindy One of the fellows who is part of my current research was this fellow: Letvwnowick, M., Pte 925921 Private (52nd Battalion, Manitoba Regiment) Mike Letvwnowick (b.1893) of Dilke died 19171117 of his wounds and is buried at Lijssenthoek military cemetery west of Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Mike was a native of Bralletosh(?), Russia, and was farming when he enlisted at Regina in 1916. Is this a Polish name? Any clue as to the home town that is given on his attestation paper? The note above is self+explanatory and Polish Genius colleagues: the original record

As you may be aware, those immigrants to Canada in the boom before 1914 who came from German/Prussian Poland or Austrian Poland were classified as suspicious after 1914 and could not enlist.  But those from Russian Poland or Russia were not, as that country was an ally.

Regardless, this record is of a young man from Bralletosh, Russia.  Any help on this supposed locality would be appreciated.  I tried the S³ownik and other sources. This person is an example of a young man who came to Saskatchewan and although a recent immigrant, enlisted and For King and Country gave his life in that bloodbath of Passchendaele in 1917.
