Pauline Marie Kot

Pauline Marie Kot, born June 29, 1930 at Weyburn, passed away July 2nd, 2008 at Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 78 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Simon and Mary Kot; two brothers: John and Arnold Kot; two sisters: Emelia Hudy, Yvonne Kot; brother-in-law Carl Schultz. Pauline is survived by her brother: Darold (Lynn) Kot, Weyburn; three sisters: Dorothy (Norbert) Schultz, Weyburn, Helen Schultz, Weyburn, Mary Ann (Ron) Abel, Weyburn; sister-in-law Betty Kot, Weyburn; brother-in-law Paul Hudy, Calgary, AB. As well as several nieces and nephews. Pauline was raised on the family farm at McTaggart and attended school there as well as the Weyburn Collegiate. Following graduation she obtained her RN from the Grey Nuns hospital in Regina. Pauline worked in many small communities in Saskatchewan and also Hawaii prior to obtaining her BSN at the University of Alberta. She received her Masters degree from the University of Washington and did advanced studies in clinical nursing at the University of Arizona. Pauline joined the staff of the Faculty of Nursing (University of Alberta) in 1969. She was recognized as a dedicated teacher and an expert in her field of medical surgical nursing. She led a team that was on the cutting edge of computer technology developing a Computer managed Learning System to teach health assessment. She was active in professional activities as well as in organizations at provincial and federal levels. Pauline also did international assignments in Nepal and Bangladesh. Pauline retired in 1991 from her position as nursing professor at the University of Alberta. On a more personal note Pauline loved sports. She prided herself in the fact that she was the only girl on the boy's ball team. This love of sports continued to her death never missing a Toronto Blue Jays game and more importantly cheering on her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders. Pauline loved her nieces and nephews and spent quality time with them whether it was playing marbles with her nephews, playing board games, or showing them the sights of Edmonton. It seemed unusual that this sophisticated lady who loved fine clothes, jewelry and flashy cars could be so down to earth when with the children. She always took a keen interest in their various pursuits. Family ties were very important for Pauline. She was instrumental in organizing a Kot family reunion which was a huge success except for the invasion of the mosquitoes. Perhaps the greatest legacy she left her family was the fact that she researched and compiled three family history books, which we as her family members refer to frequently. Her skills in the area of research and writing were superlative. She will be sadly missed and always remembered. The memorial mass for Pauline Marie Kot was held on Friday, July 11th , 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn with Fr. Gerry Bauche Celebrant.
